Ever After High: the Final Chapter
While it’s always struck me as uniquely unfair that the characters of this universe never found out if they would receive the endings that seemed so important to them, there’s a bit of cosmic, existential horror hidden in the abrupt closing of the Ever After storyline.
One of the characters I so adored as a middle-schooler was Madeline Hatter, the daughter of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. Maddie could hear the narrators of the story– she could respond to them and use them to find information on her current predicaments. She was even friends with Brooke Page, a faceless voice in the sky who wanted nothing more than for all the characters to find their own happily ever afters.
As a happy-go-lucky kid who often struggled with reality, I really liked Maddie’s optimism and popularity despite her Wonderlandiful weirdness. I liked that no one called her stupid or crazy, and I really liked her hair. As you can probably imagine, then, she’s kind of been stuck in my head since the franchise shut down, because I find her ending to be particularly and uniquely horrifying.
So here's my elevator pitch:
Imagine you can hear the voice of god in the sky. Somehow, you become friends. God is a girl your age. You chat about guys, and she helps you with your math homework–
And then, one day, she stops talking to you, and she never comes back.
Before you start this game, I recommend watching the EAH specials at least up through Dragon Games, and to be familiar with the lore of the world. This game is rated T for Teen.
